In apprehension of the approach of a larger force of rebels, the Union force at night fell back to Pilot Knob.\u2013<em>(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.perseus.tufts.edu\/hopper\/text?doc=Perseus%3Atext%3A2001.05.0076%3Achapter%3D98\">Doc. 94.<\/a><\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>\u2013Major Weight reached Lynn Creek, Missouri. On his march from Rolla he had three severe skirmishes with the enemy, upon whom he inflicted a considerable loss.\u2013<em>Missouri Democrat, Oct. <\/em>20.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013Colonel Guthrie, in command of the National forces at Charleston, Western Virginia, issued a proclamation giving the citizens of that place assurance of protection in all lawful pursuits, and calling upon them to meet on the 19th instant to organize anew their municipal government.\u2013<em>(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.perseus.tufts.edu\/hopper\/text?doc=Perseus%3Atext%3A2001.05.0076%3Achapter%3D99\">Doc. 95.<\/a><\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>\u2013C. G.
