Mr. Blake conducted the services and his text was &#8220;The race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong but Thou, Oh Lord, giveth the victory.&#8221; He made the most beautiful prayer I ever listened to and he prayed so earnestly and tenderly for those who had fallen in battle and for those who had lost their loved ones.<\/p>\n<p>A telegram this afternoon tells of the deaths of Generals Bee and Bartow, both Georgians and both relatives of the Whitehead family.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Susan Bradford is 15 years old when this entry was made.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>July 23rd, 1861.\u2014Today we had a thanksgiving service at Mount Zion Church.
