Swett.<\/p>\n<p><em>My dear Sir:<\/em> Your letter written to go to New York is long, but substantially right I believe. \u00a0 You heard Weed conversed with me, and you now have Putnam&#8217;s letters. \u00a0 It can not have failed to strike you that these men ask for just the same thing\u2014fairness and fairness only. \u00a0 This so far as in my power, they and all others shall have. \u00a0 If this suggests any modification of or addition to your letter make it accordingly. \u00a0 Burn this; not that there is anything wrong in it, but because it is best not to be known that I wrote at all.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 180px;\">Yours as ever<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 240px;\">A.
