\nThe Latest.<\/strong><\/p>\n
CHARLESTON, April 10\u2013Evening.<\/span><\/div>\n
The floating battery finished, mounted and manned, was taken out of the dock last evening, and anchored in the cove near Sullivan\u2019s Island.<\/span><\/div>\n
Our people are not excited, but there is a fixed determination to meet the issue.<\/span><\/div>\n
An additional regiment of one thousand men is hourly expected from the interior.<\/span><\/div>\n
The Convention has just adjourned subject to the call of the President. Before adjourning it passed resolutions approving the conduct of General Twiggs in reseigning his commission and turning over the public property under his control to the authorities.<\/span><\/div>\n
Governor Pickens was in secret session with the Convention today.<\/span><\/div>\n
About 1,000 troops were sent to the fortifications today. 1,800 more go down tomorrow.<\/span><\/div>\n
Messrs. Wigfall, Chesnut, Means, Manning, McGowan and Boyleston have received appointments in General Beauregard staff.
\nA large number of the members of the Convention, after adjournment, volunteered as privates.<\/span><\/div>\n
