Oh!  yes, I am a Southern girl,
\n            <\/em>And glory in the name,
\n<\/em>And boast it with far greater pride
\n            <\/em>Than glittering wealth or fame.
\n<\/em>I envy not the Northern girl
\n            <\/em>Her robes of beauty rare;
\n<\/em>Though diamonds grace her snowy neck,
\n            <\/em>And pearls bedeck her hair.
\nChorus.

\n            <\/em>                Hurrah!  hurrah!  for the sunny South so dear;
\n            <\/em>                Three cheers for the homespun dress             
\n            <\/em>                The Southern ladies wear.<\/p>\n

This homespun dress is plain, I know\u2013
\n            <\/em>My hat’s Palmetto, too\u2013
\n<\/em>But then it shows what Southern girls
\n            <\/em>For Southern rights will do.
\n<\/em>We’ve sent the bravest of our land
\n            <\/em>To battle with the foe,
\n<\/em>And we would lend a helping hand;
\n            <\/em>We love the South, you know.
\nNow, Northern goods are out of date,
\n            <\/em>And since Old Abe’s blockade,
\n<\/em>We Southern girls can be content
\n            <\/em>With goods that Southern made.
\n<\/em>We scorn to wear a bit of silk,
\n            <\/em>A bit of Northern lace,
\n<\/em>But make our homespun dresses up
\n            <\/em>And wear them with much grace.
\nOur Southern land is a glorious land,
\n            <\/em>And hers a glorious cause;
\n<\/em>So here’s three cheers for Southern rights,
\n            <\/em>And for the Southern boys<\/em>.
\n<\/em>We’ve sent our sweethearts to the war;
\n            <\/em>But, dear girls, never mind,
\n<\/em>Your soldier lad will not forget
\n            <\/em>The girl he left behind.
\nA soldier is the lad for me\u2013
\n            <\/em>A brave heart I adore\u2013
\n<\/em>And when the sunny South is free,
\n            <\/em>And fighting is no more,
\n<\/em>I’ll choose me then a lover brave
\n            <\/em>From out that gallant band;
\n<\/em>The soldier lad that I love most
\n            <\/em>Shall have my heart and hand
\nAnd now young men, a word to you;
\n            <\/em>If you would win the fair,
\n<\/em>Go to the field where honor calls,
\n            <\/em>And win your lady there.
\n<\/em>Remember that our brightest smiles
\n            <\/em>Are for the true and brave,
\n<\/em>And that our tears fall for the one
