Gen. <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps; font-size: large;\">Cadwallader<\/span> declined surrendering the prisoner till he heard from Washington. An attachment has been issued for Gen. <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps; font-size: large;\">Cadwallader<\/span>, returnable to-morrow morning. <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps; font-size: large;\">Merryma<\/span>n is still at Fort McHenry.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">No steamer from Fortress Monroe will arrive here till Wednesday morning.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">A gentleman who arrived from Alexandria this morning says all is quiet there. The town, to a great extent, is deserted by the inhabitants. The most of those who remain wear an air of sullen gloom, and all seem pervaded with apprehensions of fearful events. The troops are rapidly erecting fortifications commanding all the approaches to the city.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">The Western trains are still detained by the Harper&#8217;s Ferry authorities. No coal trains are arriving.
