We have frequently seen them follow persons for a square at a time, day after day, protesting their poverty and detailing their misfortunes, yet when offered employment in some gentleman&#8217;s home, it has been invariably refused, upon some pretext or another. To give in such cases is not charity, however much we may be inclined to relieve want.
