Dr. Sommers leaves for Vicksburgh today, inspecting hospitals. I would not care if they had no hospitals, however he is very agreeable. I prepared for my trip directly after breakfast. Mrs. Sommers came in the room and seemed very much distressed that I was in trouble, and said that she would get the Dr. to get me a pass if I would wait until he came. I knew it was of no use to ask, the Provost Marshall said I must not, but consoled me by saying, where there is a will there is generally a way. This was hint enough, so I went to Mrs. Worsham&#8217;s, and Kate went round to the Provost&#8217;s Office and got a pass for herself and Miss Edmunds. I shall ever be grateful to her for it. I then started for Mr. Barbier&#8217;s, came by and told Mr. Eyrich goodbye\u2014came by Miss Perdue&#8217;s, found Miss Mary &amp; Annie just having their baggage searched to leave for Vicksburgh\u2014banished never to return. I got through Pickets safe, Jack was on.
